Wings of War

Wings of War (no relation to the card game) is a WWI flying game that was released in 2004. It has great graphics, and performs well on the average home computer. Out of the box it is a good arcade game. It is available for the X-Box as well as the PC. There are rockets, floating bonus prizes, and an entertaining and interesting campaign and mission set. It is very easy to play online and to set up a server.

Enthusiastic users have transformed the sim with patches and mods to make it more realistic and enjoyable. To get the most from the game it is recommended that these mods be downloaded, and there are links on this page to some of the top downloads. There are some really good scenery patches available, and also some clever people have made it possible for the user to paint, and to create and modify missions.

Easily painting aircraft is one feature that universally appeals, and there are some fine "skins" available from AVSIM.com and other websites. On this site I intend to post a few of my own Australian and other aircraft repaints for download. If you would like me to add your Wings of War skin to the site please email me and I will be glad to post it here for download. If you want to get into repaints then most of the software that you will need is freely available on the net.

At the time of writing (March 2009) along with mine, there are 2 other fan sites for Wings of War that I know of. If you want to start your own squad and website then there are free hosting servers out there. All you have to do is a google or yahoo search to find one near you.

If you want to play you will need a joystick. I can recommend the Saitek and Logitech brands. If you dont have or dont want rudder pedals then it is probably best if you get a joystick that has a twist grip for rudder control, and a throttle.

Note: If you intend to spend a lot of time flying online with friends you might consider getting a TrackIR or similar device to make it easier to keep your eyes on your target.
